1. Amblyopia (or Lazy Eye)
It occurs in children when one of the eyes doesn't see well for various reasons (high diopter, strabismus, congenital cataract), causing the eye to become lazy through non-use. In practice, the child sees with only one eye (the good one), without being aware of this and without complaining of any discomfort. Vision in the eye with amblyopia can only be recovered in childhood through appropriate treatment (optical correction and/or surgical intervention) and occlusion of the good eye.
2. Chronic Glaucoma
Increased intraocular pressure can usually occur after age 45 and progressively affects peripheral vision, usually going unnoticed by the patient. If untreated, it leads to irreversible vision loss.
3. Diabetic Retinopathy
During the course of diabetes, damage to the small vessels of the retina leads to decreased vision, sometimes reaching intraocular hemorrhages or retinal detachment. With careful blood sugar control, periodic fundus examinations, accompanied when needed by drug treatments, laser applications or intraocular surgery, the evolution can be controlled.
4. Cataracts
Progressive opacification of the crystalline lens or lens inside the eye leads to slow, painless vision loss. The only treatment is surgical, with the intervention indicated when visual discomfort affects quality of life.
5. Ocular Tumors
They are rare, but can go unnoticed until they produce complications (painful secondary glaucoma, retinal detachment with vision loss).
These are just some of the serious eye diseases that occur with high frequency and whose presence patients are not aware of because they don't produce symptoms in the early stages. By coming for regular checkups, we can detect and treat many of these problems together, before they become serious.
We await you at Clario with a dedicated medical team, with state-of-the-art equipment useful in diagnosing and staging the majority of eye problems.
