Regaining the Freedom to See Without Glasses

For many patients, the decision to have surgery to eliminate glasses comes with many questions and emotions. Mrs. Sanda Nicola, university assistant and journalist, went through such a process and wanted to share her experience with us.

From Uncertainty to Confidence: The Journey to Surgery

Mrs. Sanda Nicola visited our clinic a few months ago, determined to find a solution to give up glasses. She had previously tried to have such a procedure in Belgium, but there she was told she didn't qualify and should come back in a few years. They were most likely targeting a lens replacement and waiting for the onset of cataract. It was a moment of disappointment, but her husband encouraged her to look for a clinic with state-of-the-art technology in Romania. That's how she found us.

"I came with emotions, because I had tried to have this type of surgery in Belgium and I was told I didn't qualify. I was very disappointed, but my husband told me to try at home, where maybe we could find a clinic with state-of-the-art technology. And he was right."

At the preoperative consultations, Mrs. Nicola went through a series of detailed investigations. She was impressed by the attention to detail and the fact that the medical team verified with great rigor all aspects of the procedure.

"I had the feeling that you were checking each other and not making any decision until you were completely sure. That gave me a lot of confidence."

Surgery Day – Quick and Painless

The natural emotions on the day of surgery were quickly replaced by the surprise that everything happened quickly and painlessly.

"It was so short that I didn't have time to have very big emotions. I had a moment when I regretted refusing a sedative, but I recovered quickly. Plus, I liked that when I entered the room, a patient who was extremely happy was just leaving. It encouraged me a lot."

A memorable moment was immediately after the surgery, when she first tested the result.

"I immediately wanted to check if I could write a text message. And I wrote, without errors, in the first five minutes after leaving the operating room. It was incredible!"

How Vision Evolved in the First Week

The first days were marked by small fluctuations in vision, but improvements were constant.

"It changes from hour to hour. For a few days I started working on the computer and I can say that intermediate vision is stable. Small imbalances still appear, but they are minor. At distance, vision is as clear as possible. The only difference is in the evening, when I perceive distances slightly differently, but nothing significant."

What made her happiest was regaining the pleasure of doing activities she had abandoned due to vision problems.

"I used to play volleyball, but I had given up because I could no longer follow the ball. I liked to swim, but the blurry sensation bothered me. Now, after the surgery, I enjoy all these things again."

A Life-Changing Experience

At the end of the conversation, Mrs. Nicola had a message of gratitude for our team:

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything and much success in the future! You've given me back a freedom I didn't think I would ever have again."
